Someone you may know for their other talents, our good friend and truly prolific New York Producer, Remixer, label owner & spoken word artist DJ Romain. We’ve already said we strive to work with the best here at Bedfunk and with DJ Romain we are talking New York royalty, hailing from Brooklyn New York.

Romain has over 400 productions under his belt, has been producing for well over 30 years and has worked with the best. His Philly track Groove produced with Danny Krivit, the master of the edit and 1/3 of the Trio that make up Body and Soul is a classic. Recently re-released by Defected Records. His track It’s the Spirit featuring Daryl D’Bonneau on vocals is an underground classic that is up there in the defining New York Deep sound and has been remixed famously by 83 West, who took it into the stratosphere. DJ Romain has spread his wings and dipped into spoken word vocals, no surprise as he sounds so ‘New York’ and his a unique dulcet tones and colloquial twang lends itself perfectly to it. Most successfully with NY to UK with Deep City Soul including a James Dexter remix which bangs. More recently with Saison on their No Fuss label, so it’s a pleasure to get to work with DJ Romain from his artist side and boy did he deliver.
The Deep housey number is reminiscent of the 90’s New York sound swinging beats layered synths, driving bumpy bass line and that classic New York production style. DJ Romain gives an authentic incite into what it was like back in the heady days of record shops and the clubs that helped shape the scene and just who he used to meet when he used to hang out in the now historic record shops. Something that some of the younger house heads would not have to got to experience. Now they can get a slice of life Back In the Day. This release comes with a dub for the dance floor with just the hook that lets you concentrate on that bumping groove.
Pat Bedeau first met Romain at the closing party at WMC 2008, since then they have worked together under their Trak Godz guise and done numerous remixes for each other, but this their first time on Bedfunk and a producer artist duo. The idea was dreamt up by Pat after many morning sessions before the studio with Romain reminiscing about what life was life when he first started producing and selling records and how the record shops was the place to hang out and hear what was going on in the underground
Previous releases on Bedfunk include collaborations with Hannah Khemoh The One, Cleveland Jones with Wake and Anna-Marie Johnson on Missing You, both were picked up by BBC introducing and championed by both Ed Adoo & Kerrie Cosh.
