Bedfunk are pleased to introduce and welcome to our label someone who needs no introduction in the Soulful house arena. Richard Earnshaw has been synonymous with Soulful house music, since releasing seminal tracks on labels like Soulfuric & Soulfuric Deep, Hed Kandi, Salted Music, Purple Music, Large Music, Defected Records and now Bedfunk Music in amongst a large list of releases spanning for decades. He has been releasing hits, since the early noughties. They say you are only as good as your last release. Well if that’s the case, his smash with Mr V signed to Big Love a new sub label of Defected Records headed up by Seamus Haji is set to be a summer smash. So we are very excited to sign such a big gun to our label.

Richard has worked with some of the greats in music, including the likes of Roy Ayres, Jocelyn Brown, Ursula Rucker, Natasha Watts and Kenny Thomas on his own original material and remixed many, many more. With stand out classics like People are People released back in 2002 on Soulfuric Deep, that’s right 22 years ago!!! This man is seriously house royalty, an absolute gentleman and joy to work with and we are so grateful for him to join our family.

Richard has remixed Set You Free for us and brought his magic to the song by Pat Bedeau & Jodie Erica. Adding his signature swinging crisp drums and tactful production to Jodie’s warm vocals. Taking you down a more clubby path, with some touches reminiscent of his alter ego Spiritchaser, (which he is one half of alongside Mark Bamford), then bringing it back all soulful. A master at work, he effortlessly ups the anti with classy house stabs and rolling bumpy bass and solo’s that you would expect from a classically trained Jazz musician, this remix oozes class and we could not be happier with the results.

We have included the original mix to round off the package for those who may not be familiar with it.

Jodie Erica is a Milton Keynes based Singer Song writer. She has a diverse love for music and takes inspiration from R&B, Indie-pop, neo-soul and artists like Mariah Carey & Joss Stone. Her warm vocals and soothing tones gives her own unique flavour. This all combined makes for wide appeal and allows her to connect to her audience on many levels. She is a natural story teller and her voice helps her deliver that message in a special way. This really shows in the self penned Set Me free with it’s instantly familiar hook and it deep meaning in it’s verses that people can relate to. A song about finding that right person for you.
